In a World of Constantly Evolving Information, the Importance of Reevaluating Long-Held Beliefs

Sometimes in life, we are confronted with knowledge that causes us to question much of the previously trusted information. Information that we have long held dear to our hearts as truth. Information obtained from people and sources we were taught to always trust, such as the government, our school systems, and even our parents. Because of who told us, how many times we were taught, and the belief that everyone else believes the same way, when we obtain new knowledge, it is sometimes difficult to digest that new and contradicting information.

However, if there was ever a time to look around and wonder if everything my schools and government told me and my parents was not entirely truthful, now is it. Now that the pandemic has passed, all the conspiracy theorists seem a lot less crazy than they did when the government that created the virus told everyone it came from eating a bat. This notion that these revered institutions may have hidden motives. Perhaps it is not our best interests that keep these people and institutions awake at night.

That these trusted sources may have outside influence on what they tell us, which does not always confirm to our interests but to theirs and others. It can be perplexing and frightening. As more information regarding a wide range of topics becomes available, make sure to assess it. Ask questions to ensure your personal understanding before deciding what to do with the new information. Do not allow yourself to become overwhelmed as we all go through this time and learn more and more about medical, government, and legislation.

Seek out experts in the field, listen to both sides of the debate, and make your own decision. Consider whether this new information supports or contradicts what you have "known" for a long time. Is this new information something that should cause you to reconsider your long-held beliefs? I've had to do this several times in the last few years, and it's transformed the way I analyze material and significantly altered my perspectives on a variety of topics. Remember that changing your mind about something, no matter how long you have had an idea, is not only feasible but also necessary for growth.
