ACID REFLUX / GERD / HEARTBURN
Acid Reflux, also known as GERD and heartburn is a condition where the liquid continents of the stomach regurgitate (backs up or refluxes) into the esophagus. This can cause the esophagus to become inflamed and damaged due to the acid content and pepsin in the liquid (which the throat was never designed to handle). The refluxed liquid can also contain bile which has backed up from the duodenum (first part of the small intestine). Once GERD begins it often becomes more intense and chronic.
GERD/Acid Reflux is often linked to a deficiency of HCL (making the stomach unable to break down lactic acid and other waste products). These problems are normally accompanied by stomach dysfunction normally caused by infection in the stomach (often from biofilms). The longer the condition has been present the more difficult it is to correct.
Complications of GERD can be ulcers of the esophagus, stricture of the esophagus (a narrowed opening of the esophagus can occur when ulcers heal with scar tissue [fibrosis] that narrows the lumen [passageway] of the esophagus), cough, asthma, inflammation of the throat and larynx, inflammation of and infection of the lungs.
Treatment for GERD is often by use of Betaine HCL and digestive enzymes for a short time to fix the stomach and return normal function. The treatment time varies due to how long a person has had GERD and the overall health of the individual. If infection is present it is critical that the infection be dealt with while undergoing treatment with the enzymes and Betaine HCL. Dietary changes are used for a short time to speed healing. Detox programs are also important and a quick way of resetting the normal function of the stomach and intestines. It is possible to reset the stomach and intestines to not have this problem anymore and reduce or eliminate the need for any medication or supplementation.
